Gladiators kick off 2008 1-0 with a 19-9 win over a much improved Glacier Knights team.
(Great Falls, MT) The Great Falls Gladiators opened up the 2008 season big with a 19-9 win over the Glacier Knights. The Gladiators got the night started on a Knights fumble that was returned by David Discenso 20-yards for a Gladiator score. Throughout the night the Gladiators defense seemed to dictate the outcome of this game as they applied constant pressure on Knights QB Jason Bulik. The strong Gladiator defense was lead by Mike Pease with 6.5 tackles, Joe Payne (4 tackles, 1 sack), and Mike Rhode (3.5 tackles, 1 sack). Besides Discenso's fumble he also contributed with 3 tackles and a sack. Offensively the Gladiators were lead by second year QB Brad Thurber who passed for 92yds by completing 8 out of 19 attempts. On the ground Matt Brady ran hard for the Gladiators finishing with 103 yds on 22 carries. Overall the Gladiator offense finished with 258 yards of total offense.
Gladiators kick off game #2 this Saturday @ 7:00 PM at Memorial Stadium vs. Lionz.
With the 2008 schedule now finalized, the new coaching staff in place, and practices underway, the Gladiators once again chase the Championship that to this point has eluded them. With the AA division going to three conferences, the competition is wide open. This year's schedule will include two long road trips (one to the Idaho Lionz and one to the Morgan Marauders in Utah) and games against a variety of teams throughout Montana, Idaho, & Utah.
